Deforestation

What is deforestation?

Deforestation is the name for the cutting down forests for paper, timber, oil and more. Deforestation is a good money source so LOTS of people do it especially in Borneo, Poor places (mostly African places) and one of the BIG places was the Easter Islands, everybody cut down all the trees (well the big ones not the twigy little thigs) and they died from starvation (all the trees gone ment no cannos for fishing) and fighting for the leftover twigy things.

What effect is it for animal and plant species?

Deforestation causes the land mass to decrees at a huge rate (a football field a second) so animals will have less food like plants and animals (100 animal and plant species are wiped out each day)

What other effects will it have?

Lots! rain forests are in charge of 20% of oxygen (trees clean the air) we have.

who can help?

Global community- try finding another resource for paper and a wood like substance and using different oils instead of palm oil. Country-Get someone (or you) can write to the NZ government and ask if they could talk to other countries (especially Borneo) about the deforestation and the major effects it has on the community and the animals Neighbourhood- put up posters or talk to other neighbourhoods and ask them to tell others until someone will do something Friends- ask them to put up posters around there street or ask them to tell their parents and work on a web site or a blog and hope someone will see one of the orang-utan or deforestation web sites or blogs .Family- arrange a fundraiser for the school to buy land for orang-tang reserves or adopt an orang-utan Personal- make your own blog or web site.
